How Does Solar Energy Work?

A solar system gathers UV rays from the sun and then converts those rays into usable energy. What’s great about this is that scientists predict the sun isn’t going to run out of fuel for about another 4 billion years. The energy that your solar system gathers is essentially unlimited—and gets renewed every single day.

How do solar panels work?
The panels themselves (also called photovoltaic, or PV for short) are made up of many solar cells. Solar cells are made of silicon, like semiconductors. They have a positive layer and a negative layer, and together create an electric field—exactly like a battery.

In the years of their existence, solar panels have become only more efficient, dynamic, and attractive. It’s no wonder solar has become the world’s fastest-growing source of power.

Benefits of Solar

Here's some Apricot for thought--did you know utility prices have on average increased 20% in the past 10 years, while the cost of residential solar has decreased by 50%? Choosing to go solar can make great financial sense as it allows you to generate power at a lower cost than buying electricity from a utility, and you also have predictability in your production.

Going solar can also increase your home’s value and help you sell it faster if you ever plan to move all the while benefiting the environment by creating clean renewable power from the sun.

1

Freedom

Isn’t this what it’s really about? You get to choose your energy source, and lock-in your price. You don’t have to be at the mercy of rising utility prices or usage restrictions if you don’t want to be.

2

Savings

We expect that by installing solar you will save money. Solar reduces your energy bill while increasing the value of your home.

3

Quality of Life

California’s recent wildfires, air thick with smoke and pollution, isn’t far off from the reality of our next generation. You are part of the bigger, long-term picture if you switch to solar to help with the air we all breathe.

4

A Better Future

Global emissions are showing few signs of slowing…and the United States remains the world’s secondlargest emitter of carbon dioxide. Why can’t change start now? Cleaner energy is our only option.

5

Ease

Our priority is making the solar switch as easy and uncomplicated as possible to fit your crazy busy life. Because the truth is—solar is simple!

6

Logic

The sun beams more power in an hour than we produce in electricity in the USA in a year! We are finally beginning to learn how to efficiently harness what has been naturally provided for us.

Utility Is Yesterday

Do you live in California?

If you do and currently pay the utility, you probably experience:

  • A high cost of energy per kWh
  • Fluctuating bills (i.e. higher summer bills)
  • AGGRESSIVE rate increases throughout the year, and year after year
  • Lack of choice

If you choose Apricot Solar, we can:

  • Lock in your rate for 25 years
  • Give you a stable bill month to month
  • Allow you to enjoy radical first year savings—up to 50%

Do you live in Colorado?

If you do and currently pay the utility, you probably experience:

  • Much higher summer bills compared to winter (uncertain month-to-month bills)
  • 6% compounded annual rate increases
  • A long list costly add-ons, including different fees and surcharges

If you choose Apricot Solar, we can:

  • Lock in your rate for 25 years**
  • Give you a stable bill month to month
  • Guarantee no hidden costs or fees—you pay only one fixed payment for solar, that’s it!

** Compared to California, you will experience less in first-year savings (typically it’s a bill swap or as much as 10-20% savings), but then that percentage increases each year considering rising electric costs

Do you live in Illinois?
